Cross River Destiny Awards: Archbishop Josef Bassey speaks on conceptualisation

Archibong Josef Bassey

By Our Reporter

CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – With a few hours to the premier Destiny Cross River Awards, the Visionary of the Destiny Cross River Covenant Project, the Archbishop of Calabar and Spiritual Leader of God’s Heritage Global Mission,
His Eminence Archbishop Josef Bassey has called on Cross Riverians to make the pursuit of the actualisation of the state’s destiny their core obsession.

He described a situation where men eagerly plunder and devour the state for their selfish gains as tragic, demonic, destructive, and a crime against the collective future of our land and people.

According to him, the awards are conceived as a prophetic platform to celebrate men and women whose sacrifices, patriotism, and service have shaped the destiny of Cross River State and positioned it for a greater future.

Speaking ahead of the event, Archbishop Bassey explained that the Destiny Awards are not just another round of recognition, but “a covenant moment to honour those who have laid down their lives, resources, and talents as seeds for the advancement of the state’s destiny.”

He stressed that in a generation where selfishness and corruption often eclipse noble sacrifice, it has become imperative to create a platform that immortalises true patriots and inspires a new wave of nation-builders.

Archbishop Bassey is also deeply involved in civil society in Cross River State and beyond. He serves as President of the Cross River State Christian Leaders Forum, Chairman of the Council of Elders for Christian Leaders. He is known for publicly speaking out on issues of governance, spiritual decline, and moral values.

He has lauded and supported leaders who lead with vision and character, while also challenging societal failings, emphasising that the state’s restoration must be spiritual as well as infrastructural.

The 2025 edition promises to be the grandest yet, with Governor Bassey Otu headlining the list of honourees as he receives the Destiny Grand Commander Award, the highest honour of the evening, in recognition of his uncommon leadership in rebuilding Cross River.

Other eminent figures, including Chief Anthony Ani (CON), Chief Kanu Godwin Agabi (SAN, CON), and Prof. Kelvin Etta, will also be celebrated for their legendary contributions to the state’s development.

Dignitaries from government, business, academia, the church, and the diplomatic corps are expected to grace the event, which organisers describe as “a prophetic roll call of destiny-shapers and a clarion call for Cross Riverians everywhere to rise, build, and bless the nations.”

The Destiny Cross River Awards 2025 thus stands as more than an event, it is a covenant night, where history, prophecy, and destiny converge to inspire a new chapter of hope for Cross River State
