Court sanctions 34 offenders for 73 traffic infractions in C'River

CALABAR (NAN, CONVERSEER) – A Mobile Court sitting in Calabar on Friday sanctioned 34 out of 37 traffic offenders for 73 traffic infractions in Cross River.

The judgements delivered by a Magistrate, Mrs Abigail Asuquo, in the presence of SC Innocent Etuk, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cross River Command, aimed at enforcing road traffic regulations and promoting the safety of Nigerians.

Adjudicating on the various traffic offences, Asuquo sanctioned 10 drivers for driver’s license violation, 10 for seatbelt use violation, 10 for light sign violation, nine for overloading, and six for attempting to corrupt officers on duty.

Others include seven for failure to install speed limit devices, seven for tyre violation, one for dangerous driving, six for number plate violation, and one for Passenger’s manifest violation.

Also, four drivers were convicted for Vehicle licence violation, one for a mechanically deficient vehicle and one for road obstruction, while three drivers were discharged and acquitted after serious enlightenment.

Speaking after the sitting, Etuk said the exercise was in collaboration with officials from the judiciary and other relevant stakeholders.

“The Mobile Court operation is a focused intervention patrol and also part of ongoing efforts by the Command to ensure compliance with traffic laws, reduce road traffic crashes and fatalities by 10 per cent.

“It also aims at promoting safety consciousness especially as the ‘Ember’ months progress,” he said.

He further reiterated the Corps’ commitment to maintaining safer roads and protecting lives and properties across the state, which was the Corps’ vision for its motoring public.
