CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – A Magistrate Court sitting in Calabar has granted bail of N4 million to seven alleged members of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) accused of assaulting Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials.
Delivering the ruling on the matter with file number MC/500C/2025, on Friday in Calabar, the presiding Magistrate, Mr Rajuno Bassey, said the defendants were arraigned on a four-count charge.
The seven defendants included Mr Adegboyege Suliaman, Mr Dada Olumuyiwa, Mr Adeleke Adewale, Mr Adekunle Adeleke, Mr Emmanuel Ayo, Mr Babatunde Omolaja and Mr Lasisi Olamilekun.
According to him, the charges include conspiracy to commit felony, breaking and entry, serious assault and obstruction of public officers in the course of their duty punishable under the criminal code law of Cross River State.
Although the defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges, Bassey took the prayers of their counsel and granted them bail to the tune of N4 million.

“The defendants must also provide one surety in like sum who must deposit his identity card, a valid National Identity Card and must have an address within the jurisdiction,” he said.
He also adjourned the matter for 9th December 2025 for further hearing.
It would be recalled that alleged members of NUPENG besieged the office of the FRSC on 2nd December following the impoundment of the truck of one of their members for a traffic infraction.
The Corps alerted sister agencies, who promptly arrived at the scene and arrested seven members of the union who were charged to court.
