YOLA (CONVERSEER) – A 24-year-old man from Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa State has vowed to end his relationship with his three girlfriends after they allegedly failed to visit him while in detention for stealing packs of instant noodles.
The convict, Usman Abdullahi, made the declaration on Wednesday when he appeared before the Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee during its visit to the Shelleng Satellite Custodial Facility. The committee, chaired by the State Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, was in the facility to decongest the centre and review selected cases.
Abdullahi, a car washer, had earlier received a two-year jail term for stealing packs of Indomie noodles, which he reportedly distributed among his three girlfriends before fleeing to Shani, where he was eventually arrested.
Speaking before the committee, he expressed disappointment that none of the three women visited him during his time in custody.
“I stole Indomie and distributed it to my three girlfriends. Since I arrived the facility, none of them paid me a visit. I promise to end the relationship with them all once I gain my freedom,” he told the committee.
After reviewing his case, Justice Abdulrahman reduced Abdullahi’s two-year sentence to community service at a public facility in Shelleng. The decision formed part of ongoing efforts to ease congestion and ensure fair treatment of inmates across custodial centres in the state.
