NAN reports that the fuel, which was in 10-litre gallons, and the brand new tyres were provided by the association chairman in collaboration with the state government.

Henshaw said the gathering was aimed at outlining the drivers’ agenda for the year and strengthening welfare support for members.

He explained that the initiative was designed to ensure drivers benefit directly from ticket revenues through welfare programmes and incentives.

According to him, “The free distribution of fuel and tyres was introduced under my leadership to motivate drivers and ease their operational challenges.

“Today’s event marks the second time such support is provided since I assumed office as state chairman,” he noted.

Speaking further, he acknowledged disagreements during the meeting, noting that enforcement of traffic laws remained a major concern among drivers.

The chairman said drivers often demanded a complete removal of enforcement, which he described as unrealistic in a law-governed society.

He added that the state government had reduced fines and removed some offences to address drivers’ complaints adding that the association was working closely with enforcement agencies to ensure understanding and cooperation on the roads.

He maintained that there was synergy between agency heads and enforcement officers, contrary to drivers’ fears. noting that continuous dialogue would help improve relations between drivers and regulatory authorities in the state.

Similarly, Mr Efa Nyong, Chairman of the Commercial Transport Regulatory Agency (CTRA), thanked the drivers for their attendance while noting that vehicle registration and renewal would be free for men above 60 and all women.

Nyong said that as an agency, they had reduced the traffic offences in the state to not using a seatbelt, overloading and when a vehicle has not been registered with CTRA.

He said others include not having a spare tyre, side mirrors and a fire extinguisher, adding that enforcement for these items begins on March 1.

Other organisations that attended the meeting include the police, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Vehicle Inspection Officers, among others.
