LILLE (CONVERSEER) – Brazil will need significant improvement ahead of next summer’s FIFA World Cup after playing out a 1-1 draw with a well-organised Tunisia during an international friendly in Lille on Tuesday night.
The South Americans, chasing their first World Cup trophy in 24 years, were forced to settle for a share of the spoils despite dominating possession and attempts on goal.
Tunisia, backed by strong support on French soil, kept Brazil quiet in the early stages and capitalised on their discipline with a clinical opener. Hazem Mastouri reacted sharply in the box, guiding home from close range after a swift attacking move that momentarily unsettled the Brazilian defence.
Brazil found an equaliser shortly before the break, but it came with a stroke of luck. A VAR review awarded the Selecao a penalty for a soft handball, and 18-year-old Chelsea forward Estevão Willian stepped up confidently to convert from the spot.

The second half saw Brazil press with more urgency, yet their finishing let them down. Despite registering over 20 shots, they struggled to trouble the Tunisian goalkeeper, sending most efforts wide or over the target.
Tunisia nearly handed Brazil another opportunity when a poor attempt to play out of their defensive third resulted in substitute Vitor Roque being pulled down in the box. However, Lucas Paquetá squandered the chance, firing the penalty over the bar.
Estevão came closest to securing the win in stoppage time when his low strike clipped the base of the post, but Tunisia held firm to secure a commendable result. For Brazil, the performance served as a reminder that sharper attacking play and greater composure will be required if they are to challenge for global football’s biggest prize next year.
