ABUOCHICHE (CONVERSEER) – The Executive Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Area, Hon. Egbung Odama Egbung, has issued a heartfelt appeal for calm following protests over the deplorable state of the federal highway in the area. The chairman acknowledged the citizens’ frustration, commending their peaceful desire for a better Bekwarra.
Protesters carried placards highlighting the area’s plow, with messages like “No Electricity in Bekwarra, No Good road in Bekwarra, No Federal or State Institution in Bekwarra.” A poignant image showed a young boy holding a placard, symbolising the harsh reality – the boy has never seen electricity in Bekwarra since birth.

In a message of solidarity, Hon. Egbung stated that the local government has been proactive, filling potholes and providing temporary relief, but emphasised that the road requires total reconstruction, beyond the scope of routine repairs.
The Council has written to the Federal Ministry of Works and appealed to the State Ministry of Works for intervention. The chairman announced that the Cross River State Governor, Apostle Senator Prince Bassey Otu, has approved intervention measures to commence next week.

He urged protesters to remain calm, allowing authorities to act, and not let individuals with selfish motives hijack the movement. The chairman saluted the passion and patriotism of the Bekwarra people, reaffirming his commitment to advocating for development in the area.
