BOKI (CONVERSEER) – Known arsonists have set ablaze all the records at St. Mary Quasi Parish Catholic Church, Katchuan, Irruan in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The arsonists also set fire to two vehicles belonging to the presiding priest.

The incident, Converseer gathered, occurred on Thursday morning at about 3:00 AM.
According to a source, “Unknown individuals unlawfully entered the church premises and set fire to the sacrament area inside the church. The fire caused significant damage to sacred items and parts of the altar area.”

The source added that in addition to the sacrament, the Reverend Father’s vehicles, which were parked within the church compound, were also set ablaze. The vehicles sustained extensive damage as a result of the fire.
“Emergency responders were contacted immediately, and efforts were made to contain the fire and prevent further destruction.”

Confirming the incident, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said no suspect has been identified but the command is on a manhunt for the suspected arsonists.
“Information reaching us indicates that some unknown arsonists gained entry into St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Katchuan Iruan, Boki, and burnt all records kept in the sacristy. The suspects also set ablaze the priest’s Lexus 350 Jeep and a Toyota Corolla car, parked within the church premises.

“No suspect has been identified at this time. Efforts are ongoing to ascertain those responsible for the unfortunate criminal act,” ASP Eitokpah said.
He added that so far, “The scene has been visited, photographs taken, the case incidented and referred to Okunde Police Station for discreet investigation.”

Converseer reports that this is the first time such a targeted incident has occurred in the state. Although, in 2023, Christ Divine Liberation International Church in Adim Community in Biase Local Government Area of the state, was allegedly set ablaze by traditional worshippers.
