Armed robbery suspect dies after attempted escape from police custody

MINA (CONVERSEER) – An armed robbery suspect, Aliyu Salihu of Wushishi Quarters, Minna, has died after attempting to escape from lawful custody, the Niger Police Command has confirmed.

Sources said that the incident occurred at about 9:20 AM on 23rd November at the Maitumbi Division.

According to the sources, the suspect pretended he wanted to ease himself and, in the process, struck the desk officer and one of the station guards before jumping over the station fence in an attempt to escape.

“One of the station guards pursued him and fired a shot aimed at his legs. The suspect sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to the Police Clinic, Minna, where he was confirmed dead,” the source said.

The body has been deposited at the General Hospital, Minna, for further examination.

The command is expected to carry out internal review procedures in line with established protocols.
