CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – There has been a political brouhaha in Calabar, Cross River State capital, following an alleged clash between two factions of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
According to sources, the turmoil led to the Police blocking the entrance of the venue where one of the factions was to hold a meeting on Tuesday.
The incident which happened at about 10am sent a wrong signal across, with accusing fingers pointing at the ruling party, following what happened in Ogoja recently.
However, a reliable police source disclosed that it was a factional clash and not the ruling party trying to shut opposition as claimed on social media.
The police source said it was “an intra-party disagreement within the ADC in the state.”
Adding, “Personnel of the Police Command have been deployed to the area to ensure peace, maintain law and order, and prevent any breakdown of public peace.
“At the moment, the two factions of the party are currently before the Commissioner of Police for an interview and dialogue aimed at resolving the issues and maintaining calm.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the development.
He stressed that, “Members of the public are advised to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, as the situation is under control.”
