ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – The internal leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) took a fresh turn as the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, launched a scathing attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the electoral body of acting like a “criminal organisation.”
Speaking on the controversy surrounding the party’s leadership, Abdullahi argued that Nafiu Gombe resigned on May 17, while the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that produced David Mark as chairman was held on July 29.
He explained that when Gombe approached the court on September 2, the legal principle of status quo ante bellum should naturally refer to the situation that existed before September 2, at which time the party already had an established leadership structure in place.
According to him, even if INEC insists that the court’s order referred to the period before the July 29 NEC meeting, the implication would still be that Ralph Nwosu remained the valid chairman, since the ADC was never at any point left without leadership.
“The court never envisaged a vacuum in the party’s leadership,” Abdullahi said, insisting that INEC’s interpretation was both flawed and misleading.

In his strongest remarks yet, the ADC spokesman accused the electoral commission of deliberate misconduct.
“At this point, INEC is behaving like a criminal organisation and Amupitan is the chief criminal,” he declared.
The latest comments are expected to further intensify the legal and political battle over the ADC’s leadership, as party stakeholders await further clarification from both the courts and the electoral commission.
