Gov Otu appoints Effiom as Coordinator for Social Investment Programme

CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has appointed Dr Edem Okokon Effiom, as the Coordinator of the State funded Social Investment Programme.

According to a statement signed by Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), on Thursday, 12 March 2026, Effiom’s appointment, “which is at the centre of the present administration’s ‘people’s first mantra,’ takes immediate efrect.”

The statement noted that the Programme aims to improve the living conditions of citizens, provide a safety net for the vulnerable – the aged, women, and unemployed youths, by promoting social inclusion of the marginalised groups.

“Accordingly, the initiative is expected to increase the state government’s intervention towards its citizens, stimulate economic activity and foster prosperity for the populace,” it added.
