Acting Borno Governor Kadafur assents to ₦892.448bn 2026 budget

MAIDUGURI (CONVERSEER) – The Acting Governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur, has signed into law the 2026 Appropriation Bill, with a total budget size of ₦892.448 billion.

The assent ceremony took place at the Acting Governor’s Office in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The 2026 budget was designed to address the state’s most pressing needs, with strong emphasis on sectors that directly impact citizens’ welfare, with the document reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable development, improved service delivery, and post-insurgency recovery.

The budget had been passed by the Borno State House of Assembly.

The Governor had initially presented ₦890.33 billion budget proposal to the Assembly for consideration with allocations cutting across ministries, departments, and agencies, with priority given to education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and the rehabilitation and reintegration of internally displaced persons.

After thorough scrutiny, the House approved an increase of about ₦2.37 billion, bringing the total budget to ₦892.45 billion.

Speaker of the House Abdulkarim Lawan says additional funds were earmarked mainly to strengthen the health and education sectors, others include the construction of a lecture theatre at the College of Nursing and improved infrastructure at the College of Health Technology, Maiduguri.

The Speaker assured the legislature of its continued cooperation to ensure effective implementation of the budget and delivery of meaningful dividends of democracy to the people of Borno State.
