AKURE (CONVERSEER) – Armed men riding on motorcycles on Wednesday night, 31 December 2025, attacked a police station in Ipele, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, using explosives to damage the facility before fleeing the scene.
Converseer learned that the attack occurred on New Year’s Eve at about 9:00 PM.
According to residents, the assailants stormed the police station and detonated explosive devices, causing significant damage to parts of the building.
They reportedly escaped before the arrival of security reinforcements. It was rumoured that the assailants also attacked a church in the community.
Reacting to the attack, the Ondo State Police Command condemned the attack on the Ipele Divisional Police Headquarters, clarifying that no church was attacked during the incident.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the group, ranging between 20 and 30 armed men, stormed the police station at about 9:41 PM, firing assault rifles and deploying explosives.
“The attackers set parts of the facility ablaze, leading to the destruction of sections of the building and some exhibits,” the statement said.
It added that no casualty was recorded at the time of filing the report.
The police spokesperson noted that contrary to reports circulating on social media, no church was attacked during the incident.

Following the attack, a joint security patrol comprising the Police, Military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security stakeholders was deployed to the area, but the assailants had fled before their arrival.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Adebowale Lawal, described the attack as a reprehensible act against public peace and security.
He assured residents that the situation had been brought under control and urged members of the public to remain calm, while security operations continued to track down the perpetrators.
