CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that two persons died and two others were injured in a road crash along the Iwuru section of the Ikom-Calabar road in Cross River State on Sunday, 21 December 2025.
This was disclosed by Mr Innocent Etuk, Sector Commander, Cross River Command of the FRSC on Wednesday in Calabar in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Confirming the incident, Etuk said the crash occurred around Big Iwuru, in Akamkpa Local Government Area near the police Checkpoint.

He said the crash involved two vehicles, a white Toyota Hiace Commercial bus and a black Lexus 350 private vehicle.
According to him, the cause of the crash, which led to two female deaths, two others injured and two males injured, was attributed to excessive speeding.

“The victims were travellers to their destinations at the time of the crash, and the bodies of the dead were deposited in a morgue in Iwuru by the afternoon patrol team of the Corps,” he said.

Further reacting to the incident, the Sector Commander urged drivers and passengers to take responsibility for their safety by avoiding excessive speed, distraction and phone use, and practise defensive driving.

“I also advise road users to plan their trips early and leave early, remain emotionally stable, obey traffic rules and stay alert, because life is priceless and cannot be duplicated,” he emphasised.
