YEOVILLE (CONVERSEER) – A 49-year-old building caretaker was arrested in Yeoville on 19 December 2025 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition following a crime intelligence-driven operation by police.

The operation was conducted by the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Tracing team in collaboration with the SAPS Anti-Gang Unit. Officers searched several floors of a building in George Street, where they recovered two pistols, a rifle, a hunting rifle and ammunition.

Police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on the proliferation of illegal firearms, which are believed to fuel violent crime and organised criminal activity in Gauteng.
