CAIRO (CONVERSEER) – The Pharaohs of Egypt have defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2-1 in a friendly warm-up match ahead of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Egypt started the game well and were rewarded with a goal when Mahmoud Saber poked home Zizo’s pass to lift the atmosphere at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday.
Nigeria equalised through Chidozie Awaziem at the interval to make it 1-1 at the break.
Both teams looked like they were going to settle for a draw before Mohamed Salah controversially put the Pharaohs in front in the 53rd minute, shortly after the break. Nigeria felt an Egyptian player in an offside position was interfering with play, leading to Salah’s goal. The game ended Egypt 2-1 Nigeria.

Both goals were assisted by Zizo as Egypt will now feel like a better team to win the AFCON, which is starting on 21 December in Morocco.
The Super Eagles, on the other hand, would build on this defeat and turn to a positive start if they want to reach the final as they did last time around and probably win it this time.
