ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – President Bola Tinubu on Sunday finally made a statement on the recent insecurity in the country.
While the president’s statement brought a sigh of relief to Nigerians who want assurance over their safety, there was no shy of sentiment in it.
A few days ago, news broke that schoolgirls were kidnapped by terrorists from St. Mary Catholic Secondary School in Niger State. It was later confirmed that the victims numbered over 200.
However, Tinubu in his statement on Sunday, described the kidnapping as a ‘missing’ case – even though he was talking about their release.
“I am equally happy that 51 out of the missing students of the Catholic School in Niger State, have been recovered,” Tinubu said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The President also expressed relief at the release of the kidnapped Kwara worshippers. “Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State have been rescued,” the statement added.

Tinubu said he had to cancel his G20 summit in South Africa to oversee the security situation in Nigeria.
“You will recall that I cancelled my trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to enable me coordinate the security efforts at home.
“I am closely monitoring the security situation nationwide and receiving continuous updates from the frontline.
“Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people,” the President stated.

Recall that there have been recent kidnappings in the country with the assailants targeting schools and religious centres.
Recall also that the United States, through President Donald Trump, has termed Nigeria a “country of concern” over the killing of Christians in what it termed “Christian Genocide.”
