LAGOS (CONVERSEER) – Nigerian comedian and content creator, Shank Comics, has triggered widespread reactions online after making a humorous comparison between Nigerian and UK men’s spending habits during a recent appearance on Madame Joyce’s podcast.
Speaking on the show, Shank contrasted nightlife cultures in both countries, claiming that Nigerian men spend much more lavishly in clubs than their British counterparts.
“UK boys are broke compared to Naija boys,” he said, jokingly. “Ten of them can be on one Don Julio. You’ll hear, ‘take one shot,’ ‘pour me one,’ or, ‘wait, you’ve had one already, time out till the next hour.’”

He argued that clubbing in Nigeria presents a more extravagant picture. “In Naija, it’s bottles on bottles. Boys are outside with money, buying tables and spraying. You can’t compare,” he added.
Shank also addressed the growing trend of UK-based ladies travelling to Nigeria during the festive period. According to him, many travel in December for the excitement and financial displays that define Nigerian parties.
“They come with attitude, but they’re there to pick bundles. They don’t even spend at the parties,” he said, laughing.
The podcast clip quickly went viral, sparking debates across social media platforms. Some users agreed with Shank’s observation, describing Nigerian nightlife as “unmatched,” while others criticised his comments as exaggerated and stereotypical.
The conversation has since expanded into broader discussions about cultural differences in social spending, nightlife expectations, and gender dynamics between Nigerian and UK youth.
