CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – The Chief Judge of Cross River State and Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission, Hon. Justice Akon B. Ikpeme, has announced the commencement of the 2025/2026 legal year of the state judiciary.
According to a statement signed by the Chief Registrar, Iquo B. Ekanem, Esq., the ceremony will hold on Monday, 29 September 2025, beginning with a church service at the Assemblies of God Church, No. 31 Ndidem Usang Iso Road, Calabar, at 10 a.m. prompt.
The programme will continue at the High Court Complex, Mary Slessor Avenue, Calabar, where Justice Ikpeme is expected to inspect a Guard of Honour before presiding over a special court session to mark the new legal year.
All members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in the state are expected to attend the occasion fully robed, as part of tradition and professional observance of the ceremony.
The opening of the legal year serves as an important judicial calendar event, offering an opportunity to reflect on the activities of the courts in the preceding year, while setting a new tone for justice delivery in the state.
