OUAGADOUGOU (CONVERSEER) – The Burkinabe government has announced a mutual visa exemption agreement with Italy for holders of diplomatic and service passports.
Effective 19th August 2025, Burkinabe nationals with these documents can enter Italy for short stays of up to 90 days without a visa, while the same privilege has been extended to Italian officials travelling to Burkina Faso.
Authorities clarified that the exemption applies strictly to Italy and does not grant broader access to the Schengen zone.
The move underscores growing cooperation between Ouagadougou and Rome, coming at a time when Burkina Faso’s relations with France have sharply declined since Captain Ibrahim Traoré assumed power in September 2022.
