COLORADO (CONVERSEER) – The family of 18-year-old Matthew Silverstone, one of the victims from the shootings at Evergreen High School, on Thursday, released a statement following the death of their son.
It states, “The family appreciates the community’s concern and support, but as we remain focused on our loved one’s recovery, we respectfully request privacy as we continue to heal and navigate the road ahead.”
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) confirmed that at least three students were shot at the school and rushed to the hospital.
The incident happened during a parent-student reunification, which is now happening at Bergen Meadow Elementary, 1928 S Hiwan Dr.
A recent update from the JCSO revealed that three juvenile students from Evergreen High School were transported to an area hospital.
It added that one of the three students transported is the suspect.
“Evergreen High School has been cleared by law enforcement and there is no threat to the community.”
“There are over 900 students at Evergreen High School.”
The three people transported to the hospital from Evergreen High School, were all in critical condition, including Silverstone, who later died.
The male shooter from Evergreen High School sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Recent update from the Sheriff’s office indicates that the male suspect responsible for the shootings at Evergreen High School today has died from his self-inflicted injuries.
“Individuals who have vehicles in the marked area (west lot) at Evergreen High School will be able to retrieve their vehicles today. They are instructed to go to Bergen Meadows Elementary School between the hours of 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.”
“They must provide their own keys. If your keys are somewhere within the school, you will not be provided access.”
“We are asking for only one driver and it can be anyone with a key. Authorised persons will be transported via a bus to the school and escorted to their vehicles.”
“Anyone who arrives at the school on their own will be turned away; they must go through the resource centre and be transported via our bus.”
“All parking lots at Evergreen High School are open for students and teachers to pick up their vehicles.”
“Please go to Bergen Meadows Elementary before 5 p.m. to be transported by bus. Whoever picks up the vehicle must have the keys.”
“The reunification centre at Bergen Meadows Elementary is closed. If you are a parent who has still not located your child, please call Jeffcom 911 at 303-980-7300.”
