ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has provided an update on its ongoing recruitment exercise, assuring applicants and the general public of a transparent and merit-driven process.
According to a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Dr Abdullahi Maiwada, on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, the recruitment exercise commenced with an advertisement in national newspapers on 27th December 2024, declaring a total of 3,927 vacancies across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres.
The Service disclosed that it received 573,523 applications, out of which 286,697 candidates were shortlisted after a rigorous documentary screening process. These successful candidates will now proceed to the second phase of the recruitment, a Computer-Based Test (CBT) scheduled between 14th and 21st September 2025.
The NCS explained that the CBT will be conducted online, allowing candidates to participate from any location with reliable internet access. However, it emphasised that the test must be taken using a laptop or desktop computer equipped with a webcam and a full-screen display, as the system does not support mobile devices.
A mandatory facial verification will be carried out during login, and candidates were advised to maintain neat appearances to avoid recognition issues. The Service also warned that the application is sensitive to noise and body movements; excessive distractions, window-switching, or attempts at malpractice could result in automatic logout or disqualification.
To familiarise applicants with the process, a compulsory pre-test session will be conducted two days before the actual CBT. Candidates will receive separate links for the pre-test and the examination. Additionally, applicants for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will undertake an extra CBT in the subsequent phase of the exercise, while those in the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will not be required to do so.
The Customs Service reiterated its commitment to fairness and transparency, stressing that it will not request payment at any stage of the process and will not conduct recruitment activities on social media. Applicants were urged to rely only on official communication channels for authentic information.
