AWKA (CONVERSEER) – Pandemonium broke out on Friday in Awka, the Anambra state capital, as fire gutted one of the popular fuel stations in the city.
NTA’s Ngozi Okekearu, who was at the fire scene, reports that though no life was lost, vehicles and buildings were torched and businesses were affected.
Eyewitness recounts that the inferno, which raged for over three hours, with fire service battling to contain the situation, started from the fuel tanker discharging petrol into the underground tank of the station under the intense heat of the sun.
They blamed the lack of caution on the part of both the station and the driver of the truck for the disaster.
