Police arrest suspected receiver of stolen items in Akwa Ibom

IKOT EKPENE (CONVERSEER) – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected receiver of stolen property and recovered items allegedly linked to a vandalism incident in Ikot Ekpene.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Timfon John, on Thursday, 31st July 2025.

According to DSP John, the operation, carried out on 28 July 2025, followed credible intelligence and a confession from an earlier apprehended suspect.

“Police operatives raided a black spot at No. 56 Aba Road, Ikot Ekpene, around 3:45 PM, recovering electric wires and an iron protector suspected to have been stolen from an abandoned Chambers of Commerce building on Etokebe Street.

“A follow-up search led to the arrest of Mr Elijah Etim Nyah, a resident of Okonna Street, Ikot Ekpene, believed to be a receiver of the stolen items.

“The police recovered assorted cut-to-size Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) cables, burnt and peeled electric copper wires, and aluminium roofing sheets from his shop and premises.

“An investigation is ongoing to track other suspects linked to the vandalism,” the statement read.
