Converseer reports that vandalism of electricity cables is on the rise in the state. On 14th July, a man was electrocuted while trying to steal wires from a high-tension line in Calabar South Local Government Area of the state.

Chief Superintendent Eremi Solomon John, State Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River State Command, had warned vandals and would-be vandals to stay clear of any public infrastructure put in place to serve the masses.

“We are always ready because we have the mandate to protect critical national assets which the PHED
installations are under our purview,” Eremi said, calling on the masses to report any suspect vandal activities in the state.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Police Command, SP Irene Ugbo-Obase, had repeatedly warned against jungle justice in the state.

“If you catch any suspected criminal, hand them over to the police. Don’t take laws into your hands,” she said.
